Wikileaks vs. the Empire: the Revolutionary Act of Telling the Truth

Wondrous technology has become both our friend and our enemy. Every time we turn on a computer or pick up a digital device – our secular rosary beads — we are subjected to control: to surveillance of our habits and routines, and to lies and manipulation.

Assange and Democracy’s Future

Democracy rests on citizens getting real facts and applying rational analysis. The ability of governments, including the U.S. government, to suppress facts and thus manage perceptions represents the opposite, a power over the people that WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange threatened, says Norman Solomon.

In Pursuit of Global Dictatorship, or When on Trial for the Truth

The Snowden affair, which captured the attention of the world’s media, somewhat overshadowed another no less important story also linked to the creation of a global system of total surveillance and suppression by the US administration – the case of WikiLeaks informant Bradley E Manning. Yet at the end of July, a military court in Fort Meade, Maryland, acquitted him of the most serious charge. In August, the court removed a few more of the charges against Manning, such as espionage, theft, computer fraud and so on. As a result, the maximum term of imprisonment the defendant could be sentenced to was reduced from 136 years to 90 years...

A Pogrom of Offshore Companies, or Operation «Offshore Leaks»

From the beginning of April this year, the subject of «Offshore leaks» has become a favourite with the world's media. Even the issue of Cyprus has paled in significance. Loosely speaking, «Offshore leaks» can be defined as the leakage of sensitive information about offshore companies and their clients... We are talking about a planned operation on a global scale. On 4 April, the leading media companies of a variety of countries almost simultaneously issued a sensational news story claiming that an organisation called the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has a rich database on offshore companies and their clients. The overall volume of files at ICIJ's disposal exceeds 260 gigabytes...

Democracy in America Today (II)

The fundamental political rights of Americans in today's society, not only are not exempt from elements of an archaic character, but they have become even more vulnerable, and even more manipulated... Elections arouse the most criticism. The U.S. president is still not elected by direct popular election, and instead by Electoral College. Many rightly believe this system to be obsolete and undemocratic... Down to this system, three times in the history of the U.S., the President elected has been a candidate with fewer votes than his opponent (the last time was George W. Bush in 2000)...

Ecuador Shields Assange from the Revengeful Empire

Stockholm has long pledged assistance to Obama's Administration in arranging for Assange to stand trial in the US for having put tens of thousands of US Department of State and Pentagon documents on display in Internet. Assange's legal counsel in the US M. Ratner says a group was set up in Virgina in 2010 under the oversight of the Grand Jury to analyze the materials released by WikiLeaks and to eventually implicate the outlet chief in a conspiracy to communicate defense-related information to unauthorized recipients. The code of the case – the sinister 10/3/793 – stands for conspiracy and espionage, which may entail death penalty...

The next neo-con/globalist target: the inviolability of embassies and diplomatic missions

...The United States and Canada voted «no» on a request by Ecuador to hold an emergency foreign ministers meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS) on Britain’s threat to the London embassy. But an overwhelming number of Latin American and Caribbean nations voted «yes». The «Five Eyes» are increasingly worried that they will be poked out by a gathering force of nations no longer willing to put up with the Anglo-Saxon chicanery.
