Nuland Lands in Kiev as US-backed Regime Tools Up for War

In an ominous sign that the war in Ukraine is set to further escalate, US state department official Victoria Nuland arrived in Kiev where she met with senior members of the Western-backed regime. In recent days the ceasefire brokered on September 5 has come under intense pressure as Kiev military forces have stepped up their barrage of the eastern city of Donetsk, with several civilian casualties reported almost on a daily basis...

Premature US Victory-Dancing on Ukraine

Washington’s role in the coup d’etat in Kiev on Feb. 22 has brought the U.S. a Pyrrhic victory, with the West claiming control of Ukraine albeit with a shaky grip that still requires the crushing of anti-coup rebels in the east. But the high-fiving may be short-lived once the full consequences of the putsch become clear.

The Crimean Frontier in World Development (I)

The reunification of Crimea and Russia was an event whose international scale, as is now clear, exceeds not only the scale of Russian-Ukrainian relations, but also the European format of world politics and even the larger «West – Russia» format. It is no exaggeration to say that this event marked an upheaval on a global level... Many point to the turning back of Yevgeny Primakov's airplane over the Atlantic in 1999 as one of the first signs of the emergence of the polycentric world. The fifteen years which have passed since then have confirmed both the correctness of the change in course and the accuracy of Russia's staking on China and India as new partners. In this sense the Crimean saga of 2014 was the historically predictable response to the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999...

White House Advisors on Russia: Who Are These People?

Matt Margolis и Mark Noonan are the authors of US bestseller 150 Reasons Why Barack Obama Is the Worst President in History. According to them, «the current occupant of the Oval Office is more incompetent, ill-intentioned and dangerous to America’s long-term interests than even the peanut farmer from Georgia». Republican Senator John McCain made no bones about it putting it straight, «Obama is a fool, not knave»... The number of disgruntled Americans is growing, politicians and common people, scholars and journalists, Democrats and Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals, whites and blacks... It all goes to show the United States lacks competent experts on Russia and the countries of post-Soviet space...

The Outcome of Joe Biden’s Visit to Ukraine

Ukrainian propaganda had tried to portray talks with US Vice-President Joseph Biden as an expression of America’s categorical support of the self-proclaimed Kiev government, but examining the content of the visit more carefully reveals Washington’s growing irritation with its minions in Ukraine. While supporting them for geopolitical reasons, the US is burdened with having to prove the ‘democraticness’ and legitimacy of a regime which, in reality, is neither democratic nor legitimate... The propaganda from Kiev, which separates protests into legal or illegal, contradicts the spirit and letter of the Geneva Declaration, which extends the concept of “de-escalating tensions” throughout the whole of Ukraine...

Europe: Growing Resistance to US Ukraine Policy

The United States has always tried to do its best to weaken Russia. Driving a wedge between Russia and the European Union is a priority mission. But Crimea and Ukraine frustrate the plans. Entangled in the Ukrainian crisis, Europe starts to doubt the expediency of following the US policy and displays its unwillingness to escalate the confrontation with Russia. As they say «Mutiny on the Bounty» is getting ripe, though most likely the revolt will go no further than undermining some US initiatives…

Phone Wrecks: The Secret Agenda of Ashton and Nuland Revealed

Two war-mongering women who represent the West’s foreign policy apparatus, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland and EU official and onetime British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament activist Catherine Ashton, have seen their secret agenda for Ukraine revealed as a result of leaked phone conversations... It is clear that neither the Ashton nor Nuland phone calls were meant to be overheard by the «unwashed masses». However, thanks to the intercept capabilities of loyal and proficient Ukrainian security agents, the world now understands the perfidy of two chattering women who are helping lead Europe and, possibly, the rest of the world, into a massive conflagration...

US-Ukraine: Nuland Comes Clean with Dirty Language

The leaked private phone conversation between senior US State Department official Victoria Nuland and the American ambassador to Ukraine – in which Nuland is heard to disparage the European Union with a vulgar expletive – comes as a welcome relief. It is a moment of clarity, in which the US government inadvertently comes clean on its hidden agenda...

Nuland: Obscene Remarks Normal among Top Politicians

It’s hard to imagine that the ballyhoo raised over the Nuland’s being rude about the European Union will make think twice those who are willing to see the Transatlantic Free Trade Area agreement signed. No, it does not look like that. Germans have said recently they won’t object to EU imports of genetically modified corn – welcome DuPont and Dow Chemicals. With such easy going partner Americans have no reason to refrain from obscene language. Actually, the very art of diplomacy is not needed in this case... One of Spigel readers writes that is happy not to be a government employee, he can freely express his point of view. Then he uses the very same words Mrs. Nuland said but this time they are addressed to the United States, not the European Union. Let’s consider it to be another view on what the transatlantic partnership is like...

It’s Up to Germans to Decide if They Need War in Europe

The geopolitical project of creating independent Ukraine in order to destroy the Russian statehood was not a brainchild of US strategists. The idea belonged to German ideologists. No need to fall prey to illusions, it should be understood that the people who take foreign policy decisions in Berlin today are hardly ready for a compromise with Russia on Ukraine... Czar Alexander III probably had a reason to turn to the wall the picture of German Emperor, who was his uncle, while calling Iron Chancellor Otto von Bismarck «ober-swine». No matter that, the great German politician cared about the fate of his people. That’s what a wise foreign policy is about. Germans themselves should decide if they want a war in Europe. They should think about it and not forget that the United States pursues its own goals...
