Israel Aims to Sabotage the Geneva Agreement with Iran

...A real uprising against the closing of the «Iranian dossier» is brewing in Congress. Both Republicans and Democrats are criticizing Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry. For the first time, the administration has come up against the joint efforts of the two most powerful foreign policy lobbies in the U.S. - the pro-Israel lobby and the pro-Arab lobby. The latter is no less active in the U.S. than the former, and is headed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE. The Gulf lobby differs from the better-known Jewish lobby in that it spends dozens of times more money on its PR campaigns than Israel...

The Inevitability of the Third Intifada

American diplomacy, which has been enduring one failure after another in the Middle East, is faced with the prospect with yet another large fiasco which threatens to bury the White House's entire Middle East strategy altogether. There are more and more signs that the sluggish process of Palestinian-Israeli reconciliation, which remains for now in the shadows, could be disrupted at any moment and turn into the hot phase of the Third Palestinian Intifada...

Washington’s Israeli Co-driver has Roadblocks Aplenty for Iran In Diplomatic Road Ahead

The Iranian government has described the newfound path of diplomacy with the United States as «a long road with a lot of ups and downs». Not only ups and downs, it may be added, but twists and turns, blind alleys, potholes, craters and treacherous precipices. And if the US client Israeli regime has its way the Iranian negotiating vehicle could find itself in a head-on collision with a brick wall...

Netanyahu to Pressure Obama on Iran Talks

History shows that Israel is apt to create turmoil for American foreign policy when it doesn’t get its way. After President Barack Obama’s history-making telephone conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, held while Rouhani was en route to New York’s John F. Kennedy airport for his return flight to Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu prepared himself for a diplomatic battle with Obama during a visit to the White House on September 30... After years of holding sway over successive U.S. administrations, the Israeli leadership will not go quietly into the night. The world can expect more Mossad-initiated false flag terrorist operations or nuclear material smuggling incidents with the intention of linking them to Iran. Count on it.

Mediterranean: Winds of Change (I)

...The recent discoveries of enormous oil and gas reserves in the little-explored Mediterranean Sea between Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Israel, Syria and Lebanon suggest that the region could become literally a «new Persian Gulf». But there is a reverse side of the medal. New battles over rights to resources in the Levant Basin and Aegean Sea could spark tensions and military conflicts. Turkey insists the gas must be shared, it has sent ships to back its stance. Syria and Lebanon have their own claims. Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria are also advancing claims to the "Aphrodite" gas field off Cyprus...

America's Middle East Initiatives are Stalling Once Again

Experts are linking America's efforts in the Middle East with possible preparations for a Syrian intervention. It has been reported that the US Defense Minister, Chuck Hagel, is to make an «urgent» visit to Israel on 21 April. On 22 April, meanwhile, a meeting is planned between the Israeli delegation and their Turkish colleagues, at which will be discussed «further steps in the reconciliation of both sides». One cannot rule out that following this, somewhere near the end of April-beginning of May, a more active phase of the West's interference in Syrian affairs will begin with the help of Turkey and Israel...

Israel: Secular or «Postmodern» Revolution?

The new government formed recently in Israel has decided to create a commission to draft legislation on the enlistment of so-called ultra-Orthodox Jews, or Haredim, into the army (IDF) or alternative service... Commentators have spoken of the secular revolution in Israel and the inevitable social disruptions in the country associated with changing the situation of the Haredim. This topic worries the local community even more than the outcome of negotiations between Palestine and Israel... Ultra-Orthodox rabbis, politicians and press have already attacked the new Israeli cabinet, calling «the government evil and hateful»...

Obama and Middle East: Gap between Plans and Reality

President Obama has wound up his Middle East trip, which included Israel, Palestine and Jordan, the region where conflicts are raging. There had been hopes there would be a breakthrough in the Israeli – Palestine deadlock, perhaps thanks to involvement of king Abdullah II of Jordan. It had been clear before the visit President Obama had nothing to offer that would be acceptable for the both sides, so the assistants focused on enhancing his image in the countries included into the trip’s plan...

Obama Unleashes Dogs of War in Syria

...In sum, Obama’s mediatory mission to Israel and his stunning success in healing the Turkish-Israeli rift resets the compass of Middle Eastern politics. In a way, American regional policies are returning to their pristine moorings of perpetuating the western hegemony in the Middle East in the 21st century, no matter how... The resuscitation of the Turkish-Israeli strategic axis gives the unmistakable signal that the Obama administration is shifting gear for an outright intervention in Syria to force «regime change». Thereupon, the strong likelihood is that Iran will come in the US-Israeli-Turkish crosshairs...

Yair Lapid: The New Star on the Israeli Political Scene

The main surprise of Israel’s latest elections for the19th Knesset was the Yesh Atid party («There is a future»), established less than a year ago it came in second with 19 seats, and is led by 49-year-old Yair Lapid. Some (political opponents) predict it will soon collapse, others (supporters) unquestionably see him as a future leader of the country, still others view Lapid as a product of political technologies grown overseas and grafted onto Israeli soil, similar to the leaders of the «color revolutions» in Eastern Europe, but more subtly so: «no protruding ears» or visible external shocks...

Ukraine Waits for Solutions to Its Problems from Everyone but Itself

At trilateral talks held in Brussels on October 30th, Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission reached an agreement on Russian gas supplies to Ukraine and gas transit to Europe. It is a temporary solution to this problem, since the agreement only covers the next five months – until the end of March 2015. Shortly before this, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso made it clear that emergency lending to Ukraine, including for the payment of its Russian gas debts, would not exceed €790 million (Ukraine is asking for €2 billion). Money for Ukraine can only be taken out of the pockets of European taxpayers. But European taxpayers are already disgruntled.
