John McCain, Conductor of the "Arab Spring" and the Caliph Ibrahim

Everyone has noticed the contradiction of those who recently characterized the Islamic Emirate as "freedom fighters" in Syria and who are indignant today faced with its abuses in Iraq. But if that speech is incoherent in itself, it makes perfect sense in the strategic plan: the same individuals were to be presented as allies yesterday and must be as enemies today, even if they are still on orders from Washington. Thierry Meyssan reveals below US policy through the particular case of Senator John McCain, conductor of the "Arab Spring" and longtime partner of Caliph Ibrahim.

The «Corker» in U.S.-Russian relations

Merriam Webster’s English dictionary defines a «corker» as an «amusing person». When it comes to drafting legislation to «punish» Russia with sanctions over the situation in Ukraine, Tennessee’s Republican Senator and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Corker certainly lives up to his name...

White House Advisors on Russia: Who Are These People?

Matt Margolis и Mark Noonan are the authors of US bestseller 150 Reasons Why Barack Obama Is the Worst President in History. According to them, «the current occupant of the Oval Office is more incompetent, ill-intentioned and dangerous to America’s long-term interests than even the peanut farmer from Georgia». Republican Senator John McCain made no bones about it putting it straight, «Obama is a fool, not knave»... The number of disgruntled Americans is growing, politicians and common people, scholars and journalists, Democrats and Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals, whites and blacks... It all goes to show the United States lacks competent experts on Russia and the countries of post-Soviet space...

Americans Believe in National Exceptionalism: from Obama to McCain

...The irrational unfounded faith in the exceptionalism does not let Americans see why others reject the United States hegemony or why its foreign policy evokes such indignation in different corners of the globe. It is viewed as hypocrisy, be it the issue of human rights or the US propensity to condemn others while turning a blind eye to the slip ups and gaffs of its foreign policy course, the defects of American society or the crimes committed by the military...

Global Irresponsibility

Next week the US Congress is to express its opinion on the reckless and staggering rush of Barack Obama as the President is pressuring the lawmakers to push through his decision to strike Syria. No details are known and they are changing all the time. The military officials have been asked to revise their plans 50 times since the Pentagon first began considering a «limited» action! The White House let know that the President is still pondering the prospect of expanding the list of targets to be hit by US missiles. These ill-boding fluctuations only feed into congressional uncertainty making the lawmakers doubt President Obama really knows what he is doing...

Snowden: Asylum Granted, Russia-US Ties to Go Through Rough Times

Whistle-blower Edward Snowden has been granted temporary asylum in Russia... At present Snowden has been relocated to a «safe place»... Sometime before the asylum was granted, Russia’s President Putin had said Edward Snowden has been warned against taking any actions that would damage relations between Moscow and Washington. His pledge to keep away from damaging the United States is a condition for granting asylum and Mr. Snowden has accepted that... Somehow, the events make one more question come to mind. Once Snowden cannot do any damage to the Washington from now on, it’s hard to understand what the US politicians are so jittery about?..

US Fast Forwards Plans on Syria

The American lawmakers are a law-abiding lot and they do not travel abroad without valid visa... Therefore, eyebrows will be raised that on Monday the 77-year old senator from Arizona John McCain crossed the Turkey-Syria border on a clandestine trip accompanied by “General” Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. McCain reportedly stayed inside Syria for several hours before returning to Turkey. Didn’t the Turks know about McCain’s clandestine trip? One hundred percent, they knew...

John McCain beats the drum of war

On March 5 Republican Senator John McCain urged the United States to launch airstrikes against Syria to force the government out of power. The Senator called for military intervention without further delay. McCain, the Republican presidential nominee in 2008 and the GOP’s senior member on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the U.S. should start arming Syria's rebels and spearhead military efforts to support them... John McCain stated the USA needs no UN resolution to launch the attack. He said the historic precedent is more important than a mandate and adduced the example of NATO’s military action in Kosovo in 1999 without formal U.N. authorization...

New Composition of UN Security Council, Prospects for 2015

On October 16 the United Nations General Assembly elected a new United Nations Security Council (UNSC). According to UN Charter, there are fifteen Council members - five permanent with 10 others elected. Half of non-permanent members are re-elected every year. Non-permanent members have no veto right but still possess considerable clout, especially when they join together. First, the United Nations Security Council is the main UN organ responsible for peace and international security. It can approve the use of force. Recently there were cases when non-permanent members hindered the passing of draft resolutions submitted by permanent UNSC members...
