US Boosts Military Presence in Balkans

The Serbs living in the north of Kosovo flatly refuse to abide by the agreement reached in Brussels, which makes them deprived of the Serbia’s citizenship in favor of becoming Kosovars, or the citizens of Kosovo. Soon they will face a military force called in to guarantee the fulfillment of Brussels accords. By the end of May - beginning of June the formations of 525th US Army Battlefield Surveillance Brigade come to take part in the three-week-long exercises in Hohenfels, Germany. The brigade is using the training event to complete the final preparations before taking over Multinational Battle Group-East as a part of Kosovo Forces... The brigade's headquarters and 1st Squadron, 38 Cavalry Regiment, which originally was preparing to deploy to Afghanistan, will make up the first active-duty unit deployed to Kosovo in 10 years...

Who Needs A Crisis in Kosovo?

The withdrawal of the Western coalition from Afghanistan makes it timely to create new jobs for people whose main skills lie in the sphere of gunfire, and Kosovo may be one of the places where openings will be found... The conflict at the border between Serbia and Kosovo stemmed from the interwoven interests of countries, supranational groups, and organized crime and, therefore, the Kosovo crisis promises to be permanent, even if there are no Serbs left in the province...

Macedonia: European Powder Keg

The Balkans is a region known to be a European powder keg. The events in Macedonia prove that. One should see what is happening there through the prism of US Balkans policy. One of the goals is to prevent the construction of Turkish Stream... With the South Stream pipeline project cancelled and the Turkish Stream on the way Macedonia becomes a key country on the route. The current government headed by Nikola Gruevski welcomes the plans to build the pipeline. But Zoran Zaev, his opponent who organized the Macedonian Maidan, is certain to refuse the participation in Turkish Stream...
