Kerry-Lavrov Chess Match: It’s Hardly a Match Between Equals: Empire of Chaos

It’s hardly a match between equals – as one is playing Monopoly while the other plays chess. It’s as if Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has been postponing his checkmate, while US Secretary of State John Kerry increasingly realizes he’s facing the inevitable. Lavrov has explained over and over again, a loose federation is the only possible solution for Ukraine, as part of a “deep constitutional reform”. That would imply ethnic – and even sentimentally – Russian eastern and southern Ukraine would be largely autonomous.

The US Hits the Red Line in its Confrontation with Russia

...Washington has used Ukraine as a pretext for US neocons to provoke a confrontation with Moscow. The coup in Kiev turned out to be perfect for this, but Russia’s ‘Crimean response’ defeated America’s plans for a US game on the ‘grand chessboard’. President Obama wanted to wound President Putin by calling Russia a «regional power». He pleased the Kiev putschists with his comment, but Ukraine will not become America’s consolation prize for its lost international standing. Almost a quarter (24 percent) of the people on Earth believes that the biggest threat to peace is the United States of America, which considers itself  to be «the only global power».

‘Useful, but no breakthrough’: Russia, US stalled after Ukraine crisis talks

US-Russian talks on Ukraine have not ironed out the two countries’ differences, with Washington saying it won’t recognize the results of the Crimean referendum and warning of Russia sanctions, and Moscow reiterating it will respect the republic’s choice.

Crimea Self-Determination amid Western Law of the Jungle

Ahead of the referendum in Crimea this weekend on whether the Ukrainian autonomous republic should secede and join the Russian Federation, Washington and Europe are piling on the pressure to scupper the poll with unprecedented threats of reprisals. German chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated provocative American claims that Russia is using «19th and 20th century tactics» and «law of the jungle» (meaning military aggression), when the reality is the reverse: it is Western states that are railroading political aims with wild threats of war...

Obama and Kerry Ignore U.S. Law on Aiding Ukraine Coup Leaders

Russia’s Foreign Ministry and ousted Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych have correctly pointed out that the decision by the Obama administration to provide U.S. economic assistance to Ukraine’s coup leaders is a direct violation of U.S. laws designed to ensure that juntas, which overthrow democratically-elected governments, are not rewarded with U.S. taxpayers’ money in the form of grants, loan guarantees, and other economic and/or military assistance. The original Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 forbidding such assistance was signed into law on September 4, 1961 by President John F. Kennedy. However, as with President Barack Obama’s and Secretary of State John Kerry’s decision to provide Ukraine’s coup-installed government with $1 billion in loan guarantees, the Public Law 87-195’s enforcement has been subject to inconsistent application by a number of U.S. administrations, including the present one...

Spring fails in Ukrainian plunderland

Here's the US's exceptionalist promotion of "democracy" in action; Washington has recognized a coup d'etat in Ukraine that regime-changed a - for all its glaring faults - democratically elected government.   And here is Russian President Vladimir Putin, already last year, talking about how Russia and China decided to trade in roubles and yuan, and stressing how Russia needs to quit the "excessive monopoly" of the US dollar. He had to be aware the Empire would strike back.

Warpath Western States Block Diplomacy over Ukraine

The US and its European allies are moving ever recklessly to a war footing with Russia over the crisis in Ukraine. Military maneuvers, inflammatory rhetoric and the readying of economic sanctions against Russia are creating an ominous momentum for confrontation – one that precludes even a modicum of diplomatic options to try to resolve the escalating tensions. Washington and Brussels are condemning Russia for «aggression» and «violation» of Ukrainian territory without the slightest due consideration for the political background to the crisis...

Ukraine: Noose around Neck of US Diplomacy

The White House has decided that Ukraine is in for a transition period, though it’s not clear where exactly the country is heading to. President Obama promises to cooperate with all parties without having an idea who he means exactly. It’s not known as yet who has happened to be a winner or a loser as a result of US intervention, but the contemporary plight of Ukraine allows calling it a non-existent state. America cannot stay away from the events in Ukraine but it is not ready to act on its own. The US knows how to destabilize other countries but in the given case it would like to rectify the situation with the help of Moscow...

US Assistant Secretary Nuland Visits Ukraine – Some Thoughts to Share (II)

...So the democratically elected government of Ukraine somehow lacks legitimacy and the US sends «folks» to rectify the situation. State Department’s Victoria Nuland, the leader of «folks», is at the head of the process. She is openly supporting the opposition. She has visited the protesters’ headquarters and held rousing speeches in front of the excited crowds. The Assistant Secretary openly admitted that the US spent billions of dollars on ‘democratizing’ Ukraine. There is also a reason to believe that if worst comes to worst and the situation would make the US and Russia join efforts like they do in Syria, Mrs. Assistant Secretary will be a wrong person in the wrong position and at the wrong time. Because then there will be a need for constructive approach instead of brazen behavior unworthy of someone who is a career diplomat. Otherwise what career diplomats are for?

Who is in the Driver’s Seat before Geneva-II

Unquestionably, there would be no Geneva-II conference on Syria had it not been for Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s brilliant tactical strategy of offering up a positive proposal from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that Syria would turn over to the West all of his country’s chemical weapons in order to avoid a Western military attack... In the week before the commencement of the January 22 Geneva-II talks, Assad is in the driver’s seat. To the contrary of what the United States and the other Western powers want, Assad will continue to play a dominant role in Syrian political life, merely because of his own tenacity and the total collapse of the anti-Assad coalition...

The Aggressive Feminine Face of U.S. Diplomacy

The United States is represented in the UN by Samantha Power, who recently has been shocking diplomats with her hysterical retorts, unpredictable behavior and invective from the podium of the world's main international organization. The lady who has been nicknamed Obama's «humanitarian hawk» is in such a rage over the impotence of the U.S. in Ukraine that occasionally she spouts total nonsense: that Russia has no right to forget that it is the loser, not the winner, that Moscow's behavior is outrageous because by blackmailing the U.S. with nuclear weapons, Moscow is humiliating America, etc...
