Rafael Correa – Hugo Chavez’s Political Successor

...Many in Latin America believe that after Hugo Chavez, Rafael Correa became America’s main target. Correa’s decision to close the US air base at Manta was taken particularly badly by Washington. The agreement on its use expired in 2009, and Correa announced that the contract would not be extended. Washington was asked to open an Ecuadorian base in the US on a reciprocal basis. «That’s not how we do things», replied the US State Department. Ecuador’s response came immediately: «In which case, there will not be a US military base in Ecuador either»... Rafael Correa has no intention of changing his country’s foreign policy, which is geared towards Latin American integration, the development of a multipolar world, and the maintenance of close relations with countries like China and Russia. For these reasons, John Kerry’s visit to Ecuador, which has been rumoured in the media all year, will not take place.

The Kerry-Abdullah Secret Deal Oil-Gas Pipeline: War on Iran, Syria and Russia

The details are emerging of a new secret and quite stupid Saudi-US deal on Syria and the so-called IS. It involves oil and gas control of the entire region and the weakening of Russia and Iran by Saudi Arabian flooding the world market with cheap oil. Details were concluded in the September meeting by US Secretary of State John Kerry and the Saudi King.  The unintended consequence will be to push Russia even faster to turn east to China and Eurasia.

Kerry’s Hyper-Hypocrisy Hits Escape Velocity

...The Americans see themselves above the law and normal boundaries that all other nations are obliged to respect.  This is what Russian President Vladimir Putin warned against in his New York Times opinion column at the end of last year when he referred to the «danger of American exceptionalism». The ineluctable endpoint of that mentality is «we are the master race». Is it any wonder, therefore, that Washington is today collaborating with neo-Nazis in Kiev? American government working with totalitarian fascists is not a contradiction. It is a natural progression...

White House Advisors on Russia: Who Are These People?

Matt Margolis и Mark Noonan are the authors of US bestseller 150 Reasons Why Barack Obama Is the Worst President in History. According to them, «the current occupant of the Oval Office is more incompetent, ill-intentioned and dangerous to America’s long-term interests than even the peanut farmer from Georgia». Republican Senator John McCain made no bones about it putting it straight, «Obama is a fool, not knave»... The number of disgruntled Americans is growing, politicians and common people, scholars and journalists, Democrats and Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals, whites and blacks... It all goes to show the United States lacks competent experts on Russia and the countries of post-Soviet space...

Kerry’s statement on Ukraine: A lying brief for war

On Thursday, US Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a lying brief for war aimed at justifying the crackdown by the Western-backed Kiev regime on pro-Russian protests in eastern Ukraine and possible military action against Russia. Declaring confrontation with Russia to be all but inevitable, he turned reality on its head, blaming the crisis entirely on Russia and clearing Kiev of all responsibility.

Geneva Agreement on Ukraine: Does it Stand a Chance?

...The Kiev interim government exercises little control over the situation. It tries to get around the obligations envisioned by the Geneva agreement. The grapes of wrath are getting ripe among grassroots. The unfolding of events may take a dangerous turn. There is doubt Washington will follow through the reached agreement, as historic experience shows. No matter how hard diplomats try, in the long run the way out of Ukrainian crisis is creating conditions for expressing people’s free will in all parts of Ukraine...

Kerry-Lavrov Chess Match: It’s Hardly a Match Between Equals: Empire of Chaos

It’s hardly a match between equals – as one is playing Monopoly while the other plays chess. It’s as if Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has been postponing his checkmate, while US Secretary of State John Kerry increasingly realizes he’s facing the inevitable. Lavrov has explained over and over again, a loose federation is the only possible solution for Ukraine, as part of a “deep constitutional reform”. That would imply ethnic – and even sentimentally – Russian eastern and southern Ukraine would be largely autonomous.

The US Hits the Red Line in its Confrontation with Russia

...Washington has used Ukraine as a pretext for US neocons to provoke a confrontation with Moscow. The coup in Kiev turned out to be perfect for this, but Russia’s ‘Crimean response’ defeated America’s plans for a US game on the ‘grand chessboard’. President Obama wanted to wound President Putin by calling Russia a «regional power». He pleased the Kiev putschists with his comment, but Ukraine will not become America’s consolation prize for its lost international standing. Almost a quarter (24 percent) of the people on Earth believes that the biggest threat to peace is the United States of America, which considers itself  to be «the only global power».

‘Useful, but no breakthrough’: Russia, US stalled after Ukraine crisis talks

US-Russian talks on Ukraine have not ironed out the two countries’ differences, with Washington saying it won’t recognize the results of the Crimean referendum and warning of Russia sanctions, and Moscow reiterating it will respect the republic’s choice.

Crimea Self-Determination amid Western Law of the Jungle

Ahead of the referendum in Crimea this weekend on whether the Ukrainian autonomous republic should secede and join the Russian Federation, Washington and Europe are piling on the pressure to scupper the poll with unprecedented threats of reprisals. German chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated provocative American claims that Russia is using «19th and 20th century tactics» and «law of the jungle» (meaning military aggression), when the reality is the reverse: it is Western states that are railroading political aims with wild threats of war...

Ending the Cold War on Cuba? From the Freezer to the Chiller

As US President Barack Obama announced his surprise «historic» bid to normalise relations with Cuba this week, the New York Times swooned with glowing news. ‘US to Restore Full Relations With Cuba, Erasing a Last Trace of Cold War Hostility’ was how its top headline put it. Welcoming the development, the American «newspaper of record» said Obama vowed to «cut loose the shackles of the past» and to «sweep aside one of the last vestiges of the Cold War». But, purple prose aside, the hard detail is that the ongoing illegal American embargo on Cuba will stay in place. Moreover, the move comes as Washington slaps on more sanctions against Russia and unleashes new sanctions on Venezuela...
