A Threat to World Peace

On 9 July 2015 US Marine General Joseph Dunford appeared in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee and announced that «If you want to talk about a nation that could pose an existential threat to the United States, I would have to point to Russia. And if you look at their behaviour, it’s nothing short of alarming». He said that without weapons to counter tank and artillery fire, Ukrainian troops would not be able to fend off «Russian aggression» and that «from a military perspective it's reasonable that we provide that support to the Ukrainians»...

EU Ready for Well-Planned Disinformation Campaign against Russia and Other States

The EU «strategic communication plan» to counter «Russian propaganda» in Europe has not been published yet, but the very fact of its existence hits the radar screen. Originally, the nine-page plan (already seen by many reporters) was to be made public at the June 25-26 session of the European Council...

Pentagon provocation on Russia’s border

US armored vehicles flying American flags were paraded Tuesday through the Estonian city of Narva, just a few hundred yards from the Russian border. The provocative action, coming on the heels of the first anniversary of the US-orchestrated coup in Kiev, underscores the transformation of the entire region into a zone of military confrontation, with potentially catastrophic implications for the peoples of not only Eastern Europe, but the entire planet.

U.S. Citizens Continue to Infiltrate Eastern European Governments

The recent appointment of the austerity-loving U.S. citizen and investment firm chief Natalie Jaresko as Ukraine’s Finance Minister continues a trend that has seen one Eastern European country after another appointing or electing U.S. citizens as major government officials... The current leader of the Polish parliament (Sejm) is former Foreign and Defense Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, a former U.S. resident and British citizen. Sikorski is married to the neocon columnist Anne Applebaum, a member of the editorial board of The Washington Post... The bow-tied President of Estonia, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, grew up in New Jersey and attended Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania... Valdas Adamkus served two terms as President of Lithuania. Adamkus was a U.S. citizen and a Ronald Reagan–appointed senior official of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and served as a non-commissioned officer for the U.S. Fifth Army Military Intelligence unit... Other Americans who have embedded in Eastern European governments and political organizations include Ljubica Acevska, who became Macedonia’s first ambassador to the United States; Ukrainian anti-Russian politician Ivan Lozowy; Roman Zvarych, who became Minister of Justice in the Yushchenko government; and Peter Zwack, who became Hungarian ambassador to the United States and chairman of the Hungarian Entrepreneurs’ Party...

Estonia: Doomed Without Russia

...EU members assess the damage inflicted as a consequence of the Brussels’ anti-Russia steps taken against the background of gloomy economic forecasts. Estonia is to suffer most as a result of this dubious policy. The damage to agricultural sector hit by Russia’s retaliatory measures is significant enough for this small country. Complying with instructions received from Washington and Brussels the Estonian economy has lost 38,7% of cheese and curds market or $ 36,1 million of profits, 16, 7% of milk and sour milk ($19, 3 million), 21, 9% of frozen fish ($17, 7 million). The Estonian producers have lost 40, 1% ($7, 3million) of yogurt, kefir and other milk and fermented milk products’ market. The demand for lactoserum fell by 18, 4%, as a result the Estonian budget was deprived of $2, 5 million. Estonia has lost 13% of pork market ($5, 1 million)...

US Military in Europe: from Forces Rotation to Permanent Presence

Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas urged NATO on June 20 to establish a permanent presence in his country responding to Russia’s Ukraine policy that his government sees as a threat. He said the allies were to «open your eyes and stay awake»... Until now NATO has implemented the policy of short-term army, air force and naval rotations in Eastern Europe to finish at the end of this year... The statements make believe the decision on NATO permanent basing near Russia must envision thorough study of all the consequences it would entail.

NATO Beefs Up European Presence – Balancing on Brink of Dangerous Aggravation

«Changes to troop locations will be made at the political level to address the new paradigm in the wake of the Russian-Ukraine crisis», Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove, head of U.S. European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, tweeted on May 7... The exercises conducted simultaneously result in a dangerous stand-off. It means balancing on the brink of serious aggravation and nobody knows where a spark may come from. SOF subversive activities in the explosive region are certainly not the best way to ease tensions. Sitting down and talking things over is a much more preferable approach. Perhaps the international event in Normandy was a chance President Obama opted to miss. But it’s never too late to do what is right.

NATO Steps Up Hostilities over Ukraine (I)

On May 1, NATO’s Deputy Secretary General, US diplomat Alexander Vershbow said to a group of reporters that «we have to begin to view Russia no longer as a partner but as more of an adversary than a partner». He stated that the alliance is considering new measures to «deter» Russia, including deploying more forces to Eastern Europe. NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said ditto stressing that Russia is now more of an adversary than a partner in an interview to BBC Newswire... NATO’s three-week «Spring Storm» drills, involving a record-breaking number of 6,000 troops, will be held in 5 out of 15 Estonian counties, including southern and southeastern regions close to the border with Russia. Launched on May 5 the exercises are scheduled to finish on May 23... Russia considers the increase of NATO forces so close to its border a provocation...

US Uses Ukraine as Pretext for Launching Energy War against Russia

As it became clear that the economic sanctions against Russia are going to backlash against the United States and the European Union, the West started to study other ways to «punish» Russia, including bringing down market energy rates. Obama promised to start gas deliveries from the US straight to Europe. Many saw it as the start of energy war against Russia. On March 26, the US House Foreign Affairs Committee held hearing on «The Geopolitical Potential of the U.S. Energy Boom» to study the ways how the energy production growth in the United States could be used against Russia... Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs, said Europe’s dependence on Russia’s energy supplies paralyzed the US Ukraine’s policy. The US influence and the authority of US President have diminished globally. According to Royce, the way to rectify the situation is to weaken Russia by pushing it away from traditional markets and bringing energy prices down...
