Colombia’s Bittersweet Peace Deal

Exclusive: After generations of warfare, Colombia finally has a negotiated model for peace, but the agreement is more a settlement between two battered parties than a moment of celebration. Still, it carries a promise of greater social equity and some accountability, reports Andrés Cala.

US, Colombia: Conspiracy against Venezuela

"Airtec Inc. has been awarded a contract for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) services in support of the U.S. Southern Command. The deal is expected to be completed in September 2018. The contractor will provide ISR services utilizing a Bombardier DHC-8/200. According to José Vicente Rangel, a Venezuelan journalist, the aircraft will be equipped with cutting-edge equipment to effectively survey the border areas of Venezuela."

Monsanto’s Chemical War in Colombia

Monsanto Corporation’s glyphosate, sold as “Roundup,” is the world’s most widely used herbicide. For the globalized capitalist economy it’s a tool for wealth accumulation and, secondarily, for subjugating rural populations. In Colombia glyphosate is a weapon of war. For 20 years the U.S. and Colombian governments have used glyphosate in their so-called drug war to eradicate coca crops. Glyphosate now returns to the news. The occasion is ripe for a look at the herbicide’s outsized role in the world economy and its dire effects everywhere.

NATO and US Special Services Beachhead in Colombia

Colombia wanted to cooperate with NATO on Afghanistan. It was in the plans. In 2009, the Colombian Government asked to be part of the ISAF (the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan) and work with the Spanish contingent in the mine detection operations, but this didn't materialize due to the internal conflict that Colombia faced... Then President Alvaro Uribe considered the fact that his country was invited to take part in the fight against the Taliban as substantiation to claim the status of US Latin American privileged partner... The US has strong military presence in Colombia under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking and guerilla formations...

Smuggling as Economic Warfare Weapon

The Venezuelan government has declared war against smugglers. The country-wide operation is led by Operational Strategic Commander of the National Armed Forces, General-in-Chief Vladimir Padrino López... According to Piedad Cordova, former governor of Columbia, who is a member of the team holding talks with FARC guerillas, Columbian ultra-right paramilitary groups close to the US Central Intelligence Agency and defense intelligence pose a real threat to Venezuela... Cordova emphasized that the groups are funded by Washington. Their prime mission is to topple President Maduro. They control a large segment of smuggled car fuel and lubricants. The profit is spent for the acquisition of weapons and building springboards on the Venezuelan territory...

Washington is Voting for the Candidate of War in Colombia

The second round of the presidential elections in Colombia will take place on 15 June. Despite predictions, the first round did not end in favour of current president Juan Manuel Santos, who ceded three percent of the vote to his main rival Oscar Zuluaga... During confidential meetings with representatives of the US Embassy in Bogota, Zuluaga guaranteed the further strengthening of Colombia’s allied relations with America... Zuluaga has assured Washington that he will promote Colombia’s experience of combating populist excesses throughout the region, first and foremost the influence of the Bolivarian Revolution in Latin American countries...

Latin America and the U.S.: The Apotheosis of Distrust

The year 2013 was shockingly damaging to relations between the U.S. and the countries of Latin America. Edward Snowden's revelations showed that in the Western Hemisphere, Washington is trying to play only by the rules it itself has written. Using such spying programs as Prism, Boundless Informant and others, U.S. intelligence was collecting strategically useful information throughout the South American continent and using it to ensure the effectiveness of its policy in the region...

The South American Defence Council and the Subversive Activities of the Pentagon

...Evidence exists that there are atomic warheads at the British military base on the Falkland Islands and the means to deliver them. So with the full knowledge of the Pentagon, the conditions of the Treaty of Tlatelolco on the creation of a nuclear-free zone in Latin America and the Caribbean are being ignored... This aspect of the issue had always worried Brazil, since 90 percent of their trade was carried out across the Atlantic. The situation is now even more complicated due to the discovery of rich oil and gas reserves in the territorial waters of Brazil and Venezuela, and US oil companies want to be involved in their development on a priority basis... According to experts, a complex scenario by the Pentagon to provoke a war between Columbia and Venezuela is ready and just waiting for its time to come... But will the Obama administration really embark upon the large-scale destabilisation of South America?

Colombia: A Stepping Stone for U.S. Operations against Venezuela

The arrests of Colombian paramilitares on the territory of Venezuela are not seen as anything sensational. There are more and more cases like that. And nobody asks why the fighters are methodically infiltrating the country, cleverly disguised as seasonal workers or tourists. They are being used by the enemies of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as part of a wide-reaching conspiracy, coordinated by U.S. and NATO intelligence agencies, to overthrow the lawfully elected authorities...

Global Drug Mafia and the Banks. An Introduction to the Subject

The truth to be kept in mind is that as of today the merger between the financial sector grands and the drug mafia in its classic forms – the cartels and syndicates - is an accomplished fact. No border exists any longer between global-scale banks and drug cartels and, consequently, between laundered and legally clean money – a lot of the funds believed to belong to the latter category actually fall within the former. The present alliance between banks and drug cartels is best described as the drug-banking mafia or the drug-banking business...The socioeconomic model currently materializing in the majority of the world's countries can be interpreted as a hitherto unstudied brand of capitalism, namely, the drug-banking capitalism...

US Targets Russia and China with North Korea Pretext

The North Korean state is routinely mocked in the West for engaging in hyperbole and bombast. Ironically, the Western reaction to its latest satellite launch is a carnival of knee-jerk hysteria and hyperbole. But all the bluster has conveniently given Washington an opportunity to proceed with its global missile shield plans. That is far more destabilizing to international security than any alleged North Korean violation...
