The South American Defence Council and the Subversive Activities of the Pentagon

...Evidence exists that there are atomic warheads at the British military base on the Falkland Islands and the means to deliver them. So with the full knowledge of the Pentagon, the conditions of the Treaty of Tlatelolco on the creation of a nuclear-free zone in Latin America and the Caribbean are being ignored... This aspect of the issue had always worried Brazil, since 90 percent of their trade was carried out across the Atlantic. The situation is now even more complicated due to the discovery of rich oil and gas reserves in the territorial waters of Brazil and Venezuela, and US oil companies want to be involved in their development on a priority basis... According to experts, a complex scenario by the Pentagon to provoke a war between Columbia and Venezuela is ready and just waiting for its time to come... But will the Obama administration really embark upon the large-scale destabilisation of South America?

Post-Chavez Latin America: An Alliance Between Local Capital and Socialism?

Many questions have arisen about what direction Latin America and the so-called “pink tide” will take since Hugo Chavez’s death and his successor Nicolas Maduro’s victory in the Venezuelan presidential elections against Henrique Capriles Radonski on April 14, 2013. These questions broadly focus on the rest of Latin America and the region’s leftist governments and movements. Several important questions are being asked. Will the US gain ground or lose even more influence in Latin America? Will Latin America continue to move leftwards or will the status quo ante prevail?..

Chilean Military on Pentagon’ Service

The Pentagon views Chile (along with Columbia) as the most reliable US partner. The Chilean Navy is responsible for Southern Pacific. Normally it tracks drug traffickers. But there is a more important mission: watching the routes of Russian and Chinese surface ships and submarines. The fight for the resources of the Asia-Pacific has just started and the Chile’s place was defined a long time ago... The US take advantage of the fact that since a long time the Chilean military considers Bolivia, Argentina and Peru as regional enemies. The Pentagon’s policy is focused on driving a wedge in the relations between Chili and its neighbors. The policy brings results...

Millionaire Tompkins is the operator of a U.S. Empire in Patagonia

In the late 1980's millionaire Douglas Tompkins from the U.S. made a reconnaissance trip to Siberia. He did not deny that he was looking to select «suitable area» to create a giant-scale natural park with a view to the implementation of a «deep ecology» project. Tompkins turned down the Siberian option after coming up against specific complications from the Russians: «The situation is not yet ripe». After visits to Alaska and Canada, he turned his gaze on Chile, with its uninhabited areas in the south, and Argentina, where the economic crisis facilitated the buying up of agricultural land...

CIA agents attack «Soviet facilities». From the history of the Cold War

...We should not assume that the United States under the new historical conditions, and after winning the Cold War, looks favorably on the increased activity in Latin America of Russian diplomacy and Russian businessmen. U.S. intelligence agencies keep all aspects of this activity under constant surveillance. And if necessary, they use their wealth of experience in alleged provocations, sabotage and propaganda manipulation to discredit the recent “Russian return to Latin America»...

DEA Lends a Hand to Drug Traffickers in South America

Think of a cozy piano bar on a quiet street in downtown Santiago de Chile, a romantic spot where dating couples, artsy types, and tourists hang out half-listening to old-time hits. Such must have been the place where a DEA agent stationed at the US embassy met with his contact, a high-ranking Investigations Police (PDI) officer, to discuss the arrangements – quantities, disguise, routes, and protection - for a business-as-usual drug trafficking operation, the supply of a shipment of cocaine from Bolivia via the Paso de Colina passage...

Pentagon's Subversive Geostrategic Activity in Latin America

The U.S. is strengthening its network of military bases in Asia Pacific in anticipation of China's making deeper inroads into the region... Chavez bluntly said that the UNASUR jump to unity over the common defensive doctrine was inspired by the Libyan and other dramas provoked by U.S. interventions. Indeed, there are absolutely no reasons to believe that the Libyan scenario will not some day materialize in Latin America.

US Gangsterism Actually Reinforces Latin American Unity

Chilean poet and 1945 Nobel Prize winner Gabriela Mistral said that, in addition to their beautiful language, Latin Americans are, more than by anything else, united by the hate for the US. Regardless of how many things have changed since the epoch in which she coined the phrase, the hate is still there and growing stronger, being one of the reasons which make the CELAC rock-solid.

The Chilean Young Challenge the Liberal Regime

The market-oriented reform of Chile's education system made university training unaffordable for the majority of the younger generation of Chileans. Recklessly committed to the Bologna declaration, Sebastián Piñera's ultraliberal government is staunchly converting education into a for-profit services sector and schools – into ordinary businesses with purely financial efficiency criteria... The course predictably triggers loud protests across the society. In today's Chile, the judgment on the education reform is being pronounced in city streets, where discontent students clash with police, are teargassed and swept off their feet by water cannons...

Chilean Liberals' Police State

Amnesty International is calling the Chilean administration to tone down the suppression of social protests, warning that the current practice puts the future of democracy in Chile in jeopardy. The watchdog's executive director for Chile Ana Piquer directed biting criticism at the application of the anti-terrorist code to the non-violent protests multiplying throughout the country… What above all scares the Chilean elite is that outraged young people uphold slogans obviously borrowed from the epoch of Salvador Allende…

Cuba and US Foreign Policy

...The shift in the relations between Washington and Havana gives rise to speculations related to Russia-Cuba ties. For instance, the Los Angeles Times writes «Better relations between the United States and Cuba also could undermine Russia's expectation of Havana's backing in political and diplomatic confrontations that pit the former superpowers against each other». The Washington Times believes that the US intelligence is concerned over the Russia-Cuba security agreement concluded in May 2014 establishing a joint working group between Russia’s Security Council and the Cuban Commission for National Security and Defense...
