Dayton for Ukraine

With all the agreements reached, the talks in Minsk have left a lot of unsolved problems. The main one is defining the territorial status of what some call separate areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions while others view them as the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics. I believe that the experience of the Dayton 1995 accords could be useful here. Obviously the Dayton (Bosnian) model is relevant in the case of Ukraine...

Ukraine: Dayton Accords Once Again?

The armed coup staged in Kiev, that made Neo-Nazi groups come to power, put Ukraine on the brink of collapse. The events unfold according to traditional pattern of conflict escalation with mass violations of human rights, ethnic cleansing, resistance in some regions, complete anarchy, divisions in the ranks of power agencies and field commanders going on a rampage. The United States and the European Union are rendering aid to the ultranationalist junta. The reunification of Crimea with Russia shows, among other things, that the coercive Eurointegartion of Ukraine has failed. Only an international solution still to be found could lead the country out of the crisis…

The «Bosnian Spring» and the Serbian Fall

The dramatic developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina are becoming increas-ingly pan-European in character. In the dynamics of the conflict one can see parallels which make it similar to the crisis in Ukraine... Considering the intensity of interethnic disputes which persists in Bosnia and Herze-govina almost two decades after the end of the fratricidal war, the socioeconomic cri-sis could easily grow into the disintegration of the country. It is very likely that the West will take advantage of events and force the Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina...

Syrian Rebels Get Arms from Kosovo and Bosnia

...The policy of the West in Syria is myopic. It goes on losing control over the events in this country. In fact it gives refuge to terrorists and faces the prospect of raging terror spilling over to Europe. Hotbeds of Islamic extremism that appeared with the connivance of the West in the former Yugoslavia are sparked again under the influence of Middle East events. Europe appears to be threatened by a big fire...

UN and Balkans: Crisis of Genre (II)

The major objective of the European structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a lot more complicated than strengthening the self-proclaimed statehood in Kosovo. There is an attempt to make three peoples: the Muslims, the Serbs and the Croats – live in one state, something they perceive quite differently. The Islamist aggressive behavior, the Croatian nationalism fuelled by Zagreb, the bugaboo of Great Serbian threat invented by the West – all these factors aggravate the situation there...

UN and Balkans: Crisis of Genre (I)

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon started an unprecedented Balkans tour on July 20 coming straight from China. In a week – till July 26 – he’s to visit Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and the Serbian region of Kosovo unrecognized as an “independent nation” neither by Serbia, nor by Russia, as well as many other states... Since 1999 the United Nations policy in the Balkans has become a hostage of the NATO military operation against Yugoslavia that pushed it to the sidelines of regional political processes... Moreover, as the classified documents that have been made public show, it is Ban Ki-moon who was at the origin of the self-proclaimed independence of Kosovo...

From Srebrenica and Racak to Benghazi and Homs

...Atlanticism is on the march. Both NATO’s operations in the Balkans and the Arab World are intended to expand the Euro-Atlantic Zone. Its involvement in African Union missions in East Africa are also tied to this. For all observers who take a detailed look at the restructuring of states vanquished by NATO, this should be very clear. Humanitarianism has become the new face of modern imperialism.

Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Map of the Battle Over Dominance in Europe

The 1992-1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina stands out as exceptionally ferocious even in the grisly context of Yugoslavia's collapse... These days, the West increasingly puts to work in the world's strategic regions the humanitarian intervention scenarios and subversion techniques tested in the Balkans in the 1990ies... Speaking of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it obviously stays ethnically divided and scarred by the bloody past conflict even two decades since rolling out its independence...

Elba Meeting: 70 Years After

...The Elbe meeting of comrades-in-arms fighting the same enemy was a historic event. But differences remained. They became more visible as the end of war was approaching... Thousands of Russian soldiers were shedding blood near Berlin to bring closer the end of war and save lives of US and British servicemen. At the very same time Winston Churchill gave an order to work out a plan of war against the Soviet Union (Operation Unthinkable) to impose on Moscow the will of the United States and the British Empire! The Red Army’s ally held a stone inside his shirt...
