FIVE EYES Neo-colonialism in the Pacific Region

The recent revelations from the documents provided by National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower Edward Snowden that the NSA’s two Pacific partners, the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) and Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) conduct wholesale eavesdropping on the communications of the island nations of the Pacific may not be “news” but the reaction to the surveillance by regional leaders points to the neo-colonialism practiced by the NSA’s FIVE EYES intelligence partners...

Terrorism on Russia and Western Double Standards

Let’s charitably, for the moment, call it a Western-centric view. But one thing is unmistakable: the Western mainstream news media have a reprehensible double standard when it comes to their coverage of terrorist attacks against Russia compared with incidents in Western countries... The Sydney hostage taker was clearly motivated at a personal level by Islamist extremism... However, that did not stop Western news media and Western governments going into overdrive in their reaction to the siege. There were swift statements of «solidarity» and «prayers» from the US, British and Canadian governments sent to Australian premier Tony Abbott... Now contrast this media frenzy with the downbeat Western reaction to an actual terrorist attack less than two weeks ago in the Russian republic of Chechnya...

Tony Abbott: America’s Useful Idiot Down Under

After Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s unfulfilled threat to physically «shirt front» Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 conference in Brisbane, Abbott did manage to undiplomatically insult the Russian head of state by telling him not to recreate the «lost glories of tsarism and the old Soviet Union»... Just before the G-20 conclave, Abbott was loudly booed by the public when he arrived at the Sydney Town Hall for the funeral of Australia’s last true Labor Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam. Abbott’s history as a provocateur for the United States and the Central Intelligence Agency is well-known to Australians who recall how the CIA engineered the ouster of Whitlam in a 1975 «constitutional coup»...

Australian imperialism: Political attack dog for US war drive

The recent remarks by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott that he was going to “shirtfront” Russian President Vladimir Putin over the downing of Malaysian Airlines MH17 at the summit of G20 leaders in Brisbane next month may at first sight appear somewhat bizarre.  But far from being a strange antipodean outburst, Abbott’s remarks are an expression of intensifying geo-political tensions, especially the US push against Russia, and the increasing replacement of diplomacy with militarism and sabre-rattling.

Russia Breaks EU Blockade

On June 24 President Vladimir Putin wound up his visit to Austria – the second trip abroad after the situation in Ukraine took a turn for the worse.  He went to Normandy in early June to take part in the 70 th Anniversary of D-Day commemoration. The launching of the «the second front» delivered a powerful blow against the US-led anti-Russian European alliance. The summit in Austria laid a foundation for Russia’s further economic cooperation with Western partners... It’s an open secret that many Western leaders perceive these issues as intertwined... Some circles in Brussels try to play an «anti-Russian» card at the time the European Union is unable to refuse the role of obedient junior partner of the United States.

NSA Partnerships Invalidate Nordic Nations’ Neutrality

The revelations that Sweden’s equivalent of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), the National Defense Radio Establishment or Försvarets radioanstalt (FRA), helped the global NSA FIVE EYES alliance to eavesdrop on Russia’s political leadership invalidates Sweden’s long-claimed military neutrality, a status that was in place from the end of the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century and which survived the Second World War...

NATO turns into IOTO as it spread to the East

With the prodding of the United States, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) appears to be making another long-leap to the east. Already extending its influence in the Mediterranean and North Africa through the Mediterranean Dialogue and the Middle East through the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, NATO now looks set to extend its North Atlantic Charter well into the Indian Ocean. The «North Atlantic» Treaty Organization may one day be expanded to be called NATO- «IOTO», or the NATO - Indian Ocean Treaty Organization...

America’s Pacific Zone of War

The United States has successfully installed two America-compliant leaders as the heads of government of Australia and New Zealand, Washington’s two most important Asia-Pacific regional allies. Both leaders, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, rose rapidly within their respective parties, a sure sign that they had outside support, likely from the Central Intelligence Agency, which has historically meddled in the domestic affairs of Australia and New Zealand...

In a Vulture Capitalist World Colonialism is in Vogue Again

In a recent decision, expected for final adoption in March 2012, on overseas countries and territories or OCTs - the term "colony" is no longer used in globalized «Newspeak» - the EU now insists that a collection of four EU member states' overseas dependencies «spread all over the world» must be less "dependent" on Europe but must be maintained as "strategically important outposts»... For the United States, EU maintenance of its «strategically important outposts» is important in the Pentagon’s grand design to be assured military access to the outposts in the event of regional and global wars...

India & ‘America’s Pacific Century’ (I)

The American strategists nowadays call India a ‘swing power’ in the Asian theatre and that its stance on any issue of substance in the regional security scenario would hold the potential to shift the power dynamic, especially in the Asia-Pacific where the US and China are involved in a keen tussle for regional dominance. India’s ‘trilateral dialogue’ with the US and Japan has China’s rise as its leitmotif. The Indian pundits have begun resuscitating the old idea circa 2006-07 of a ‘quadrilateral alliance’ [US-Japan-India-Australia] to contain China in the Asia-Pacific. Some have argued for a US-India-Australia ‘security pact’ in the Indian Ocean and Malacca Straits through which China conducts the overwhelming bulk of its foreign trade including 80 percent of its petroleum imports...

Elbe Meeting: 70 Years After

...The Elbe meeting of comrades-in-arms fighting the same enemy was a historic event. But differences remained. They became more visible as the end of war was approaching... Thousands of Russian soldiers were shedding blood near Berlin to bring closer the end of war and save lives of US and British servicemen. At the very same time Winston Churchill gave an order to work out a plan of war against the Soviet Union (Operation Unthinkable) to impose on Moscow the will of the United States and the British Empire! The Red Army’s ally held a stone inside his shirt...
