Geneva Peace Talks Suspended: Syria Faces Further Escalation of Conflict

The Syrian opposition has stymied the UN-sponsored peace talks in Geneva. Having refused a dialogue with the delegation of the Syria Arab Republic, its delegation left the talks. UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura halted the negotiation process until February 25...

Assad’s Forces Rout American-Backed Jihadists at Golan Heights

A major US-backed assault to win Syria’s crucial Golan Heights, by jihadist rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Jabhat al-Nusra (Syria’s branch of al-Qaeda), and Harakat Ahrar Ash-Sham (the largest rebel group in Syria, though it’s ignored by Western news-media), was repelled  on Saturday morning, January 30th, by the army of the non-sectarian Syrian government, the Syrian Arab Army, which are the forces of Syria’s non-sectarian Shiite President Bashar al-Assad and his ideologically non-sectarian Ba’ath Party, the only political force in Syria that insists upon separation of church and state. (The Ba’ath Party in Iraq was led by Saddam Hussein, which George W. Bush’s forces eliminated there. American regimes, both Republican and Democratic, are anti-Ba’athist, pro-jihadist.)...

UNSC Approves Resolution on Syria: Russia, US Make Strides in Boosting Cooperation in Middle East (I)

For the first time since the Syrian civil war began, world powers agreed on Dec.18 at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to embrace a plan for a cease-fire and a peace process that holds the distant prospect of ending the conflict...

US May be Salvaging Victory for Jihadists in Syria: How & Why

According to Britain’s Telegraph, in a recent report, the US TOW antitank missiles that US President Barack Obama sent in October to the Islamic Sunni fighters in Syria to use against the forces of the non-sectarian Shiite ruler there, Bashar al-Assad, have been so effective against Russia’s forces that Assad had invited in, that Russia – defending (upon Syria’s legal request) President Assad’s forces, and attacking the jihadists imported into Syria by the Saudis and the West – is now being forced to send into the battle Russia’s costly T-90 tanks, which are less vulnerable to America’s missiles...

Vienna Conference On Syria – Analysis

The conference at Vienna’s magnificent Hotel Imperial on October 30, bringing together 17 states (China, Egypt, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States) and lasting almost eight hours, ended with a nine-point joint communiqué. The United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) were also represented at the conference. This is the third such attempt to hold talks to find a way to bring to an end Syria’s seemingly endless agony. This one is a more serious and sensible attempt than the previous ones.

US Shifts Syria Policy

By launching the military operation in Syria, Russia showed the world that it does not abandon its allies. Moscow achieved the strategic result it had been pursuing during all the years since the beginning of the Syrian crisis. On October 30, 19 states met in Vienna to agree on preserving Syria as a one state, defeating the Islamic State and supporting the Syrian refugees, as well as the countries that host them. Syrian people will decide the fate of their country, representatives of the government of Syria and the Syrian opposition will be convened for a political process leading to credible, inclusive governance, followed by a new constitution and elections...

Regime-Change Makeover: Blaming Syria for the Rise of ISIS

If a recent report in the British Guardian is to be believed, then the West is angling for a new pretext to step up its covert war of regime in Syria. The new pretext, it would seem, is that the Damascus government of Bashar al Assad was the main driving force in the creation of the so-called Islamic State (IS) terror network... That the IS group was inculcated and mentored by American intelligence seems without question – except to Western media like the Guardian. But that Western media whitewash of the real American origins of IS is now overlaid with a new veneer of misinformation... As the Western media narrative evolves, it seems rather more to do with extending the mission of IS – regime change in Syria.

Ukraine, Syria Hold Elections: Another Good Example of Double Standards Practiced by West

There was a 10-day period between the recent presidential elections held in Ukraine and Syria. The two states face unrest while the government forces are fighting insurgents. In the both cases the United States and Europe take an unambiguous stance throwing their support behind one of the belligerents.  What strikes an eye is that they apply absolutely contrasting approaches depending on each case.  No matter the Kiev regime continues to deliver massive strikes against civilians in Donbass using artillery and aviation, the results of Ukrainian election are recognized with no strings attached by the United States and Europe. They say the election fully met the democratic standards.   Talking about the expression of Syrian people’s will, U.S. State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said the election was a “disgrace” and “staged”...

Homs Taken Back, Bashar Assad’s Victory Close as Never Before

While the world attention is focused on Ukraine, the events in Syria may significantly affect the situation in the Middle East and the world. The forces of Bashar Assad have fully liberated Homs, the third largest city of the country with a population of one million where the uprising started around three years back... Analysts already make conjectures related to the would-be correlation of forces in the Middle East after the inevitable victory of Bashar Assad which is close. The forecasts are worrisome for Washington. The emerging axis Tehran-Bagdad-Damascus-Beirut is a nightmare and thanks to the awkward policies implemented by former President George Bush and incumbent President Barack Obama it is close to becoming a reality. They did their best to make it come true. By and large the White House behaves the same way in Ukraine. Its Ukrainian policy may also fail the same way.

A New War within a War in Syria

The West, perhaps without even trying, through its most recent arms shipments to the Syrian opposition, including those in which Saudi Arabia participated, has taken the civil war in Syria to a new level of conflict - a war of «all versus all»... The British publication The Independent poses the question of how it is possible in the conditions of civil war to supply arms to the «good guys» and not to the «bad guys». History teaches us that they can easily switch places, and that the latter may very well win...
