It was very apparent that the aggressive U.S. ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, and her staff worked behind the scenes to achieve the 137 vote in favor of the anti-Syria resolution. The vote came amid fears that Syria would end up in the same predicament as Libya, also the target of UN-manipulated Western intervention and now wracked by civil war. As they did in Libya, U.S.-supported “Al Qaeda” elements entered Syria to foment insurrection against Assad...

The Arab League lauded the West's new onslaught on the Middle East and volunteered a blessing to unspecified “peacekeeping forces” that would be dispatched to Syria to dislodge Assad. Who, under the scenario, would take his place? Either the Arab League is moving too fast while the Western intelligence services are unprepared to offer a candidate or those leave it entirely to the Arab League to dispose of Assad... Unlike the Arab League, Damascus has no chance to get heard in the West. Considering that Syria was among the founders of the League, it would be interesting to get an idea from whose name the group might be speaking under current circumstances...

The current situation in Syria remains one of the most important components of the Middle Eastern and international policies... Since the beginning of the crisis in Syria I have made two trips to that country as a member of international delegations in August 2011 and in January 2012. If we watch the dynamics of situation’s development over that period on the one hand we can state intensification of terrorist groups in Syria and on the other hand we see a broader people’s support of President Bashar Assad...

Anti-government protests in Syria have added more fuel to the fire of the Arab Spring... The Syrian crisis is being actively affected from abroad. Various reports confirm that there is a plan aimed to divide Syria into several parts, with some areas annexed to Turkey, the Golan Heights going to Israel, and probably separate Kurdish and Druze territorial entities...

Syria has entered the sixth month of anti-government riots, orchestrated from abroad. Protesters no longer seek moderate reforms, they aggressively demand Bashar Assad`s resignation. Western media accuse Damascus of ‘opposing democratic changes’. The former US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, Craig Roberts, had earlier explained what these changes were about: “We need to topple Gaddafi in Libya and Assad in Syria because we want to oust China and Russia from the Mediterranean”...

Syria is the only Mideast country which still does not depend on the West and tries to stick to its own policy... One thing is clear: if the Syrian government is forced to step down, this will undermine stability all across the region, which will certainly affect Lebanon, where there is no government for almost six months already. Hezbollah and Syria appear to be the only factors helping to maintain a kind of balance. Neither it will do good Israel, Turkey, Jordan, Iraq. Even Saudi Arabia may later regret what has been done...
