Kerry’s Message to Somalia: Beef up Military

Secretary of State John Kerry came off, once again, sounding like «Johnny One Note» on the first-ever visit by an American Secretary of State to Somalia. In his short three hour meeting with Somali leaders, including Somalia’s ineffective and powerless president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Kerry was confined to a sandbag-fortified security bivouac at Mogadishu airport because the Somali government has no control over its own capital city...

Obama’s preventive coup in Burkina Faso

After a popular uprising forced Burkina Faso’s longtime dictator Blaise Compaoré from power after a 27-year long reign supported by the United States and France, President Barack Obama had to move fast. The White House wanted to ensure that loyalists of Compaoré’s assassinated predecessor, Marxist icon Thomas Sankara, a man his mother, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) / Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) maven Ann Dunham Soetoro, may have helped to topple in 1987, did not return to power in the landlocked West African nation...

What African State is Another Target for US Military Intervention?

The US has temporarily moved nearly 200 Marines to Sicily from their base in Spain. This is a precautionary step to bolster the ability to respond to a crisis in Africa... «We're doing this as a contingency because we believe that the security situation in North Africa is deteriorating to a point where there could be threats», said Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman... In 2013 alone, AFRICOM conducted joint exercises with fourteen African nations, leading land, sea, and air-based operations carrying out a total of 546 «military activities» which is an average of one and half military missions a day... All over Africa, the United States has tried to check the growing influence of China. It’s easy to see what’s driving the US policy on the continent. Remembering Bill Clinton «It's the economy, stupid». The planned military interventions are part of larger geopolitical game...

Asia Pivot Declared, US Army Eyes Africa

U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to Africa in June-July was widely seen as evidence of the White House's broader foreign policy objectives which have included an expansion of U.S. military operations across Africa. With the forces leaving Afghanistan, the Army is looking for new missions around the world. « As we reduce the rotational requirement to combat areas, we can use these forces to great effect in Africa », Gen. David M. Rodriguez, the head of the Africa Command, told Congress this year…

US Boosts Africa Presence

It’s an open secret AFRICOM was created to counter the growing presence of China in Africa. The Chinese African performance is a story of success... In terms of development lending, as opposed to conditional lending by the World Bank, Chinese aid is rendered with no strings attached and usually spent on infrastructure projects that raise grass roots living standards... Just a few months before the US decision to establish AFRICOM, China hosted an historic Beijing summit, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which brought nearly fifty African heads of state and ministers to Beijing in October 2006... In July 2012 China offered African countries $20 billion in loans over the next three years, double the amount pledged in the previous three-year period...

Obama’s Military Presence in Niger: Uranium Control and Tuareg Suppression

President Obama’s military incursion into Niger, ostensibly to establish a drone base to counter «Al Qaeda» and other Islamist guerrilla activity in neighboring Mali, has little to do with counter-insurgency and everything to do with establishing U.S. control over Niger’s uranium and other natural resources output and suppressing its native Tuareg population from seeking autonomy with their kin in northern Mali and Algeria. The new drone base is initially located in the capital of Niamey and will later be moved to a forward operating location expected to be located in Agadez in the heart of Tuareg Niger...

European Police ‘Scarier Than ISIS Terrorists’

In what is being described as the worse refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War, tens of thousands of desperate migrants are streaming across EU borders. They have risked their lives to get there, only to be then attacked by EU «border police», or else targeted by racist street mobs. Welcome to Europe!..
