Gazprom head to visit Serbia Feb 28 over S Stream pipeline

Gazprom head Alexei Miller will visit Serbia on February 28 to discuss the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline and the price of Russian gas, Srbijagas reported on Thursday.

“Alexei Miller will arrive in Serbia on a working visit on February 28 to discuss the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline, erect gas-fired power plants and new gas storage facilities, the price of Russian gas and issues related to the activity of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS),” the report says.

On February 20, the Serbian parliament has approved a law, which regulates the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline.

The law should speed up the redemption and the preparation of the land for its erection. A total of 176 deputies vote for the law with 12 deputies against.

One of the sections will run to Kosovo from the town of Nis to supply gas to the province and Macedonia. In addition, the pipeline’s sections are expected to be built to the Republika Srprska and Croatia.

The length of the Serbian section will reach 450 kilometres and it is estimated at 1.7 billion euros. In November 2009 South Stream Serbia AG was set up. Gazprom’s share is of 51 percent while Srbijagas is 49 percent.
