Shoigu comes to Kamchatka to assess Pacific fleet submariners

News | 10.02.2014 | 11:40

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has arrived in Kamchatka on a working visit. He will assess the condition of the Pacific Fleet's submarine forces, Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"The program of the defense minister's visit includes a trip to the main base of the Pacific Fleet submarine forces in the closed administrative unit Vilyuchinsk and an inspection of progress on building infrastructure for next-generation submarines, including the pier and support facilities, as well as social sites," Konashenkov said.

The defense minister will listen to reports of the commanders of the Eastern Military District, the Pacific Fleet and the submarine forces about the renovation and development of the comprehensive basing infrastructure of strategic and multirole submarines consistent with the plan of the Russian Armed Forces' development in the period until 2020, he said.
