Protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square are bracing themselves for more demonstrations to demand that the military should hand over power to a civilian administration. Innumerable protesters spent last night in the square despite the appointment of an authoritative politician, Kamal Ganzouri, as Egypt’s Prime Minister. Ganzouri headed the Egyptian Government from 1996 to 1999. But observers point out that the majority of young protesters can hardly see the 78-year old politician as an attractive figure. The demonstrators are also pressing for a delay in the parliamentary elections that have been scheduled for next Monday. According to the Egyptian Public Health Ministry, more than 40 people have died since protests erupted a week ago.
