Visegrad Group gets ready for NATO summit

According to NATO’s plans, which are to be discussed at the summit in Chicago in May, the countries of the former USSR, which surround Russia, must play the role of an “anaconda ring” pressing Russia...The essence of the North-Atlantic alliance as a military and political bloc has not changed since its establishment in 1949. NATO has not changed its goals regarding historical Russia which were set back in the beginning of the Cold War. These are only means of achieving these goals which are changing.

EU - Turkish Stalemate and the French Elections

The presidential elections in France will open on April 22, and the candidates' campaigning explainably holds the attention of watchers in Ankara. The immediate future of the ties between Turkey and France largely depends on the outcome of the poll, plus their reverting to normalcy can become a prologue to a warming of Turkey's relations with the entire EU. One of the two key contenders whose duel currently defines the intrigue in Paris - the incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy - is an outspoken opponent of admitting Turkey to the alliance, whereas his main rival - socialist Francois Hollande - calls for a flexible approach to the issue... The relations between France and Turkey become better readable if the impact of those between France and Germany on the context is taken into account. Geographically, France seems destined for European leadership, but the same is true of Germany, its traditional rival. If, for example, Berlin takes to building a partnership with Moscow, Paris does whatever it takes to derail the process. Sarkozy will never subscribe to the Paris-Berlin-Moscow triad, his formula being Paris-London-Washington...

What Fate is Awaiting Egyptians Copts after the Demise of Shenuda III?

The Copts are the descendants of ancient Egyptians and direct heirs to the culture of Egyptian pharaohs. Today they account for about 9% of the country’s population. The exact number is unknown. Supposedly it’s about 6 million... The Copts have always distinguished themselves by remaining faithful to Christianity no matter under the tough pressure from the Muslim environment... Circassian theme of Syria’s tragedy

The currently tense situation in Syria and around it has galvanized the propaganda clichés that the West is using to stigmatize Russia for the so-called “Circassian question”. The Circassians is a general terms for the kindred languages and cultures of the Kabardians, the Cherkess, the Ubykh people, the Adygs and the Shapsugs of the North Caucasus. Individual members of the Circassian diaspora in different countries have repeatedly manifested their wish to be repatriated to their historical homeland, - to Russia, and Circassians in Syria are no exception... That is why the US is trying to have the Circassian issue “entwined” with the “lining” of the Syrian problem...

China – USA: Struggle for Control of Pacific

Asia - Pacific region is attracting the increasing attention of Western politicians against the backdrop of Chinese growing military and economic might. For instance the US influence had been indisputable until recently but today China’s intensifying efforts to raise its profile in the geostrategic area is something seen with the naked eye. US analysts sound the alarm saying the Chinese simply “pick up” the countries the US administration failed to build relationships with...

Geopolitical Outlook for the Czech Republic From Washington's Perspective

The Czech line of conduct depends entirely on Washington which is comfortable with Prague's and Warsaw's shared leadership in the Visegrád Group, a military-political alliance of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia with a distinct anti-Russian flavor... The Czech Republic and Poland are used by Washington to keep Moscow and Berlin apart in line with the Anglo-Saxon strategy aimed at suppressing any tendencies towards a Russia-Germany continentalist bloc...

The West Plays 'Cherkess' Card Against Russia

The Cherkess are in origin a North Caucasian ethnic group...The West has been urging Cherkess organizations abroad to submit such demands to Moscow which would signal the beginning of a large-scale information warfare against Russia… The meeting at the European Parliament  brought together members of the Cherkess organizations from the US, Israel, Turkey, Europe…

Shaky prospects for the Eastern Partnership

The meeting in late September of the member states of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) project (initiated by Poland and Sweden and targeting six post-Soviet states – Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) showed that Warsaw is still interested in the Euro-Atlantic integration of these countries, especially of the first three ones... Actually, the EaP project is aimed at breaking long cultural and historical traditions which used to unite Russia and it’s the former Soviet republics. The aim is also to let the West expand its military presence in the region, an initiative also launched by Poland...

Ukraine and Poland's Strategic Interests

For the US, Poland is a dependable partner whom Washington can entrust with serious geopolitical missions. The meeting of the Ukrainian and Polish leaders came under scrutiny in a publication by Stratfor, a private US intelligence company occasionally referred to as the shadow CIA... The view strongly held by STRATFOR analysts is that „Poland is searching for strategic depth” by upgrading the Polish-Ukrainian relationship, „the idea being that Kiev is the one playing the role of buffer to Russia”...

Germany: The Parties Trial of Strength

The North Rhine-Westphalia elections continued a series of failures of Christian Democratic Union / Christian Social Union at local elections that actually started since the last Bundestag election in September 2009. The loss of votes by the Christian Democrats each time regional elections take place has become a steady tendency... the election result can be considered as a proof of discontent caused by austerity budget that the government of Angela Merkel advocates...
