In Search of the Climate Front in the US

More than at any time since the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, concerns about weather have gripped the US in 2012. Long percolating consciousness about global warming has overlapped with extraordinary weather patterns and records: an avalanche of high temperature marks; a drought of nearly unprecedented breadth, intensity, and duration; extraordinary acreage destroyed in wildfires; massive fish die-offs; and Hurricane Sandy, which flooded portions of New York City and environs in October...Paradoxically, despite the obviousness of extraordinary weather patterns and the seriousness of the implications, the politics surrounding natural resources and climate in the US are deeply hidden from view…

Russia a Key Priority for India

India’s Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai outlined India’s priority in boosting India-Russia partnership at the sixth India-Russia dialogue in New Delhi last week...Admitting that almost 70 per cent of India’s military hardware are of Soviet/Russian origin, the foreign secretary raised the pitch for invigorating defence relations between the two countries…

Greater Kurdistan: a New Actor on Middle East Map?

A new non-Arab important actor may soon appear on the Middle East volatile map as the recent events testify. Only this month Kurdistan was visited by Ukrainian (headed by Foreign Minister), Armenian and Canadian delegations. The US team went there in October, Ni Jian, the Chinese ambassador to Iraq, was in Erbil by the end of August. Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu paid a symbolic visit to Kirkuk on August 2, 2012, the first high level visit by Turkish official in 75 years. Much to the chagrin of Baghdad, the visit consolidates Turkey’s acceptance of Kurdistan ...In early April, 2012 Kurdistan’s President Massoud Barzani visited the US to meet top officials, including President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Obama encouraged President Barzani to continue playing a "vital role" in the Iraqi political process…

Russia-Iraq: Agreements Concluded on Sand

In 2003 Iraq was occupied by the USA engaged in “global fight against terrorism”. The Iraqi Armed Forces didn’t exist anymore. Since then all key decisions were taken by United States itself, then a formal power transition followed under US control. Naturally it influences the arms supplies policy. As a victor the USA exercises full control over the decisions in this sphere and decides who and to what extent is “to have access to the pie”...Today the USA has over 40 arms contracts with Iraq totaling over $13 billion…

The Gaza conundrum (III)

The eight-day conflict in Gaza brought to the fore the role of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi who belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood as the sole regional mediator between the Palestinians and Israel. Egypt cannot be easily dethroned from this enviable position in a near future. This has vast implications for the power dynamics in the Middle East... Turkey and Iran are the two most affected regional powers in this shift in the regional dynamics. These two countries found themselves to be at a disadvantage...

The Gaza conundrum (II)

Clinton’s fulsome praise for Morsi and indirectly for the Muslim Brotherhood underscored the phenomenal shift in Washington’s perspective on the Egyptian protagonists during the recent three-month period when US-Egypt ties hit a low point following the large-scale anti-American demonstrations in Cairo in September. Full credit goes to the Qatar emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for taming the Sphinx on the Nile banks. The yeomen service rendered by the two «Islamist» leaders in repairing the damage caused to the US-Egypt ties and the western interests in general following the downfall of Hosni Mubarak is without parallels in the region’s muddled history...

A True-to-Life James Bond Villain

With billions from his own and U.S. intelligence financial tranches available to influence vote counts and install governments, Soros has become a modern-day Prince Metternich. Soros is a template for the modern-day Machiavellian behind-the-scenes manipulator, once feeling as comfortable assisting Hungarian and German Nazi officials in rounding up Jews for deportation as he is now consorting with Nobel Peace Prize laureates in bringing about global «democracy». However, Soros’s idea of democracy is installing political leaders who willingly obey orders from the blood-sucking banking elites of London, New York, and Frankfurt...

Cyber warfare – Another Element of Modern Combat Revolution

The Gaza flare up has been capturing public attention lately. It appears to be all about rockets, air strikes and horrible pictures of death and human suffering that has no end. But there is one more important aspect of the conflict that somehow misses the radar screen. On November 18, 2012 the Israeli government said it has been hit with more than 44 million cyber attacks since it started. «The war is being fought on three fronts», Camela Avner, Israel's chief information officer, said on in a press release. «The first is physical, the second is the world of social networks and the third is cyber attacks». The example goes to show the cyber warfare is becoming part and parcel of a contemporary military conflict...

Libyan Scenario for Syria

This September the British Times published an article saying the largest shipload of arms destined for Free Syrian Army came to Turkey from Libya... It is far from being the only arms shipment sent to anti-government Syrian gangs in recent months... According to Franklin Lamb, Foreign Policy Journal, at least 24 states are involved in supplying weapons to the insurgents. Two thirds of them are NATO members...

CIA agents attack «Soviet facilities». From the history of the Cold War

...We should not assume that the United States under the new historical conditions, and after winning the Cold War, looks favorably on the increased activity in Latin America of Russian diplomacy and Russian businessmen. U.S. intelligence agencies keep all aspects of this activity under constant surveillance. And if necessary, they use their wealth of experience in alleged provocations, sabotage and propaganda manipulation to discredit the recent “Russian return to Latin America»...

Currency Swaps in the Modern World. The Birth of the Global Currency Cartel (II)

Before 2011, unlimited swaps between central banks were open for a period of seven days. In the autumn of 2011, however, the US FRS, the European Central Bank (ECB), the Bank of Japan, the Bank of England, the Bank of Switzerland and the Bank of Canada (the ‘big six’) agreed to coordinate actions to ensure the liquidity of the global financial system... Currency wars are not going anywhere; they are just ceasing to exist within the currency pool of the ‘big six’, while new currency wars between the ‘big six’ and the rest of the world are inevitable. The success of BRICS and other countries on the periphery of global capitalism in building a fair global financial order will, to a large extent, depend on the understanding that the West has already been consolidated and has distanced itself from the rest of the world...
