The Situation in Afghanistan (II)

Press reports had indicated that President Karzai would announce at the conference of Afghanistan’s neighbours the plan for Afghan National forces taking over responsibility for Security in additional areas from ISAF forces... Ill-trained and ill-prepared Afghan troops operating in areas where they have few ethnic affinities and are virtually as alien as the Coalition forces is one facet of the problem. The continued high rate of desertion is another. But perhaps most worrying for the ISAF forces may be the spate of recent incidents in which the Afghan soldiers have turned their guns on their foreign trainers and mentors...

India & ‘America’s Pacific Century’ (I)

The American strategists nowadays call India a ‘swing power’ in the Asian theatre and that its stance on any issue of substance in the regional security scenario would hold the potential to shift the power dynamic, especially in the Asia-Pacific where the US and China are involved in a keen tussle for regional dominance. India’s ‘trilateral dialogue’ with the US and Japan has China’s rise as its leitmotif. The Indian pundits have begun resuscitating the old idea circa 2006-07 of a ‘quadrilateral alliance’ [US-Japan-India-Australia] to contain China in the Asia-Pacific. Some have argued for a US-India-Australia ‘security pact’ in the Indian Ocean and Malacca Straits through which China conducts the overwhelming bulk of its foreign trade including 80 percent of its petroleum imports...

The European Missile Defense and the Risks of a New Arms Race

The collapse of the missile defense talks and President Medvedev's recent statement in which he warned that Russia would consider serious response measures highlighted the fact that the US and NATO switched the arms race to a new mode rather than quitted it following the demise of the Soviet Union. The Western agenda behind the resumed arms race is to neutralize Russia's nuclear deterrent... Moscow should shed any illusions that the US would ever consent to an equal partnership with assertive Russia...

The Situation in Afghanistan (I)

The world’s attention is focused on the American air attack on two Pakistani check posts that resulted in the death of 24 Pakistani soldiers and officers and serious injuries to another 13. It is a tragedy that given the many incidents of the last year –notably the raid on the Pakistani city of Abbotabad to kill Bin Laden and the exponential increase in Drone attacks - may be the final straw on the camel’s back and may bring about an irrevocable break in US-Pak relations...

The Legal Regime being formed against Syria by the Arab League, SNC, and R2P

The Arab League coupled with a proxy group called the Syrian National Council (SNC) that is the creation of a tactical alliance between the Syrian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, Washington, NATO, Israel, and the Persian Gulf’s petro-monarchs is being used within the framework of false pretences of humanitarianism for a plan to oust President Bashar Al-Assad from power and install a new client government in Damascus...

Escalation Around the Trans-Caspian Pipeline

The developments around the Trans-Caspian Pipeline project supposed to provide an undersea energy supply link between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are about to reach a critical point... An escalation is imminent if drastic steps to advance the construction of the Trans-Caspian pipeline are taken. The US, which at the moment intends to shift some of its military infrastructures from Afghanistan to Central Asia, will likely intervene in the conflict...

The Obama Doctrine: Imperialism Masked as «Humanitarian Interventionism»

The Obama administration, in yet another display of the use of Orwellian language, has embarked on a military doctrine called "Mass Atrocity Prevention" (MAP), the Pentagon operational plan to implement the White House's "R2P" or "Responsibility to Protect" doctrine... And in yet another display of oxymoronic Orwellian “Newspeak,” the main Defense Department activity for developing “Mass Atrocity Response Operations” or “MARO” is the Army’s Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (PKSOI)... Current targets for meddling by MARO and the Soros NGO network are Syria, Somalia, Philippines, Kenya, post-Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) Colombia, Guatemala, Pakistan, Uganda (targeting the Lord’s Resistance Army), and North and South Yemen...

The End of Reset

A credible reset in the US-Russian relations would take a reset in the minds of the US politicians and financial players who would have to embrace a completely new geopolitical vision and delete irreversibly their absurd dream of world dominance...

A European Market Blow

Has Italy voted Mario Monti for Berlusconi and Greece gone for Lucas Papademos to replace Papandreu? None was elected in lawful elections, both are former members of European Financial Organizations, academically trained in USA, members of Trilateral Commission and Goldman Sachs, just to say that with them in power the PIIGs are unquestionably under the control of any dictates given by the IMF, CEB, EU. This has already happened in Third World economies, and now it is happening in Europe, being these dictates associated with austerity and privatization...

Marine Le Pen: «We Have Never Been Wrong»

It is hard to tell which of the two emotions – national pride or  indignation over obvious injustice – fuels the revival of the Europeans' unique national spirit. This year the process which the European political class is desperately trying to impede manifested itself in a pattern-setting array of political developments... At the moment the cause which is evidently gaining momentum is championed by Marion Anne Perrine Le Pen, the daughter of the charismatic French nationalist Jean-Marie Le Pen and an increasingly visible figure on Europe's political horizon...

The Fantasy World of Central Bank Interest Rates Has Set the Stage for the Second Wave of the Global Financial Crisis

Starting from February, deposits made with the Bank of Japan began to accrue negative interest. The interest rate at the Central Bank of Japan now stands at minus 0.1%. This is no longer seen as shocking. The central banks in developed countries began backing into the negative zone for passive operations several years ago...
