Lebanon: a New Phase of the Arab-Israeli Conflict

"The prime objective of the Israeli operation which began in July, 2006 was the “cleansing” of all the Islamist groups dangerous for Israel... The Israeli operation in Lebanon is just the first phase of a more extensive plan to suppress all the forces opposing Israel in the Middle East, especially Syria and Iran... Given the current international situation, Israel, which is invariably supported by the US, has a complete freedom of maneuver and can do whatever it declares necessary for its security... None the less, certain tendencies are emerging that might eventually transform the above situation..."

FIDEL

"On August 13, 2006 Fidel Castro was 80. The jubilee of the Cuban leader has come at a time when his serious disease exacerbated, so it may seem that congratulatory speeches are out of question. However these two events – Fidel’s jubilee and his disease - are in the focus of the attention of the world media, politicians and analysts. U.S. President holds forth on that almost daily, even though Cuba looks like a grain of sand as compared to the vast territory of the United States. While in Washington and Miami they cackle on Fidel’s score; people in Latin America pain to follow reports about his state of health; the developments in Cuba are closely followed in most countries of “the third world”; and Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian people sympathise with Cubans..."

Poland: Mission Impossible

Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, a lady of the spotless political culture, is unable to do anything about the slow but constantly growing resentment of the German public opinion towards Poland and Poles. As days go by, there appear more and more critical and at times sneering articles in the German press on its eastern neighbour’s foreign policies. A story published by the popular newspaper Tagesspiegel is a bright example of the trend. The article is titled “Young Polish Potatoes: Hoi Polloi Bent on the World Dominance”...

The Universalia of Ukrainian Policies

"The victory of the coalition of the anti-crisis forces is neither absolute nor irreversible. It would take hard work and a target-oriented strategically checked policy for the rhetoric in favour of the national unity and consolidation of the Ukrainian society to become a reality. Until recently the art of balance and compromise has never been one of the strongest features of the Ukrainian power elite. This art is in demand with the society at present. There is always a subtle and easily breakable verge between a compromise and renunciation of principles. What can the Party of the Regions sacrifice, and what it would under no conditions give up? What is the limit for the presidential backtracking?..."

Israeli-Lebanese Conflict: Who is There in the Wings?

Israel would not dare launch military actions of such a large scale without being protected and assisted by the United States. The third party, interested in this operation is Great Britain in its capacity of the U.S. ally (as represented by Tony Blair and his team) and an active player in the political games in the “Greater Middle East.” Nevertheless, these three states collectively are not the chief organiser of the bloody drama. The chief figure is hidden in the shadows of the world’s financial oligarchy that continues to do its best to change the political and socio-economic structure of the planet’s community in its interests consistently and intensively. Well-known U.S. economist Lindon Larush calls these forces the “world bankers’ financial dictatorship...”

NATO on the Volga and “The Global Strike”

"A short while ago we in Russia admired the recent events in the Crimea, where local residents formed a live shield blocking the way for NATO troops and forcing a U.S. navy vessel out of the port of Feodosia... The support of the anti-NATO manifestations in the Crimea by Russia’s public became an important indication. People rejoiced at winning their first battle with politicians who try to drag Ukraine into NATO... But are we in Russia capable of acting the same way, with or without an approval of our neighbours? This question arises in connection with plans of the Russian Defence Ministry to hold joint manoeuvres of the Russian and NATO armed forces in September and October of this year in the Nizhni Novgorod region..."

Intermarium and Poland’s Cherished Dreams

Poland's opposition Law & Justice Party (LJP) held its congress in Katowice on July 3-6, 2015. Michał Dworczyk, the head of Freedom and Democracy Foundation established to support Poles in former USSR, and former adviser to late President Lech Kaczyński, outlined the guidelines of Poland’s eastern policy. He emphasized the need to reject the policy of “historical amnesia” when Poland turns a blind eye on the Kiev’s heroization of Nazi OUN-UPA (the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists- Ukrainian Insurgent Army) criminals. He also stressed the need to strengthen ties with the countries of so-called Intermarium. The plight of Poles in Lithuania and Belarus will be in focus of the foreign policy efforts under the President-elect Andrzej Duda who won the presidential election as the LJP candidate (he was present at the congress)...
